I have a Shiba Inu, Tina.

Today, she turned one.

 

For anyone who doesn’t know, Shiba Inus are very independent.

 

They say it’s a tall order to recall a Shiba once she’s on an adventure.

 

In fact, all the websites I’ve visited on this topic swear you should never, ever let your Shiba off-leash.

 

Last week, I met a horse trainer. She happened to have a Shiba at home in the country.

 

“Did you ever let her off-leash?”

 

“Oh yes. It took us two years of consistent training, but she learned.”

 

I walked away elated, with Tina in tow. We’re already taking puppy classes. It's one step toward our goal. Together, we can get there.
